Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes. As long as you itemize your deductions on your federal income tax return, your donation is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Your credit card statement will show iGivefirst Charitable Fund as the recipient of your donation through iGivefirst. iGivefirst Charitable Fund is a nonprofit organization that collects contributions from donors and distributes such contributions to any 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is in good standing with the IRS that you, the donor, have designated to financially support.

Who is iGivefirst Charitable Fund?

iGivefirst Charitable Fund is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity that is regulated by federal and state legal statutes.  iGivefirst is a charitable fundraising platform that empowers you to make a difference by securely donating to legitimate nonprofit organizations. We verify all nonprofits we provide are federally registered and in good standing with the IRS.

We created iGivefirst in effort to make giving to charity easy, trustworthy and secure. We do all of the heavy lifting for nonprofit organizations and reduce their administration effort and cost. We facilitate all tax reporting, payement processing, acknowledgment letters and provide the charity with mainstream media exposure. We significantly lower their cost and ensure that more of your money goes to where it’s intended.

iGivefirst decreases administration cost for United States 501(c)(3) nonprofits. There are currently over 1.5 million charities in the United States and each of them use a multitude of different and typically costly third-party technology solutions. Nonprofits are normally charged setup, monthly and license fees from service/solution providers. iGivefirst doesn’t require technology installation/integration, advertising or marketing efforts from the nonprofit.

The iGivefirst service includes automated tax reporting, easy payment processing and mainstream media exposure. Unlike many fundraisers, iGivefirst does not charge registered nonprofits setup or maintenance fees – effectively allowing nonprofits of all sizes to benefit from our service.

Quick fact: Even some large nonprofits generate donors’ tax receipts manually.  The iGivefirst technology automates this process, which can further reduce a nonprofit’s expense to make your donation go further!

Is there a charge to the charity?

In every company there is a cost of doing business, including charity. However, we were shocked to find out that it is currently acceptable for a charity to retain up to 40% and most highly efficient charities retain 25%?!

A 60% program percentage typically indicates a “satisfactory” or “C range” rating. Most highly efficient charities are able to spend 75% or more on programs.  ~ http://www.charitywatch.org/criteria.html (aka American Institute of Philanthropy)

We created iGivefirst in effort to make giving to charity easy, trustworthy and secure. In exchange for a flat 5% plus merchant/payment processing fee, we do all of the heavy lifting for nonprofit organizations and reduce their administration effort and cost. We facilitate all tax reporting, payement processing, acknowledgment letters and provide the charity with mainstream media exposure. We significantly lower their cost and ensure that more of your money goes to where it’s intended.

A technology service fee is a common practice in business. Visa, MasterCard, PayPal and Software as a Service (SaaS) providers like IBM have used this model for years. The 5% fee includes administration and operation costs, technology, license, development, reporting, personnel, customer service, marketing, advertising, technology infrastructure, security and more. An additional 3.5% is retained for payment processing and fund delivery paid directly to the payment processor.  In the future, we would like to partner with sponsors to reduce or elimate the fee strcuture for nonprofits. With your help, we can do it together!

Trust, transparency, security and your satisfaction are VERY important to us.

Can I cancel my contribution if I change my mind?

If a nonprofit is unable to accept or cannot accept donations for a variety of reasons (i.e. Disqualification of 501(c)(3) status by the IRS) then iGivefirst Charitable Fund will select an alternate charity to receive your donation funds. All donations are final and may not be refunded.

What happens to my donation once I have donated?

The donation that you have designated will be donated by iGivefirst Charitable Fund to the specific 501(c)(3) nonprofit(s) you have chosen within 30 days. iGivefirst Charitable Fund’s financials are audited by independent and creditable 3rd party auditors and made available to the public. At anytime you can login to your customer dashboard for a complete history of your donations and to print receipt your end-of-year tax receipt.

Why does my receipt list Charitable Distribution Fund in addition to the nonprofit I donated to?

iGivefirst Charitable Fund is a nonprofit organization that collects contributions from donors and distributes those contributions to other nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations in good standing with the IRS. By providing you with a single receipt for all of your donation, it makes your life easier during tax season and it reduces the need for the nonprofit to spend their valuable resources sending out tax receipts to all donors. Instead, they only need to write one receipt to iGivefirst Charitable Fund regardless of how many individual donations have been made through iGivefirst.

Can I donate anonymously?

Yes, after your transaction has been completed, you will have the option to share you information with the nonprofit you donated to.

Does iGivefirst donate any of their proceeds to charity?
